Bonnie Kooiker

Bonnie Kooiker - November 27, 1979 - October 20, 2007

My youngest sister Bonnie is an inspiration to me. When she was in high school she decided she enjoyed Spanish. She studied hard and became fluent. She was a talented Spanish teacher at Omaha South High, and she worked as an interpreter in the Omaha area. She was married on Dec 29, 2006.

On June 21, 2006 she was diagnosed with a rare cancer –there is no history of it in our family. We thought it was beaten but it came back in early 2007. She died on Oct 20, 2007 at age 27.

Bonnie had encouraged me to run for the city council in 2002 and was one of my most enthusiastic supporters.

The Miracle of the Orange Cat

The cat (named Tiger) is enjoying a pampered existence in his new home on St. Charles Street. We are friends with the owners.

No one knows where the cat came from.

This is one of my favorites. I took this picture at the Sapp Brothers Truck Stop in Omaha in April 1996.
